Outcry over comedian Andrew Lawrence's Liverpool comments

A comedian who was once dropped by his agent after making offensive comments has received backlash on X over comments concerning the Liverpool parade crash.

Comedian Andrew Lawrence posted the tweet on X this afternoon, which has now received over 2.6k comments and 802 retweets.

The comedian's comment came after more than 50 people, including three children, were treated in hospitals after the incident.

A 53-year-old man was arrested after the “horror” incident.

The force said the collision was not being treated as terrorism, adding that the suspect was white, British, from the Liverpool area and was the driver of the car.

In 2021, Lawrence was dropped by his agents after making offensive comments in the aftermath of England's heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat in the 2020 Euros.

The then 41-year-old, who has previously featured on the BBC, made comments about the penalty takers after the finals.

And in reference to the anti-poverty campaigning of Marcus Rashford - one of those to miss a penalty - he said he'd: 'Rather he'd (Rashford) practised his penalties and the kids had gone hungry.'

In a subsequent post on Twitter, agents RBM Comedy said they no longer represented Lawrence.

Lawrence was due to perform at Huntingdon Hall that year, but the show was subsequently cancelled.
